About us

Welcome to the Rix worldwide DNA project which includes the variants RicksRex, de Rijck, de Ryck, de Rycke, Rijck, Ryck, Rycke and Rycks. If you wish to go ahead and order a test, proceed to the order form for more information and prices. The 37 marker Y-DNA test is the best value for money.

Take a look at the Results tab above for an explanation of the results so far. A table of the numerical results may be viewed from the DNA Results > Colorized Chart tab.

Documentary records suggest that the vast majority of Rix males living in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa trace their Rix ancestry back to the county of Norfolk, England. There are also numerous Rix living in continental Europe whose genetic origins are yet to be discovered. Did all Rix share a common ancestor or did the name develop independently in different parts of the country or the world? How do you fit in? This project can find the answers.

The project is open to any male with the surname Rix or Ricks or Rex or any variant. The Y-DNA test is used for male line family history purposes because Y-DNA is passed down from fathers to sons through the generations in the same manner that surnames are passed down. By testing Y-DNA it is possible to compare the results of two or more men and determine whether they have a common ancestor and descend from the same branch of the family. Y-DNA tests are currently available for 12, 25, 37, 67 or 111 markers. The Y-DNA37 marker test is the best option to choose initially as it provides the best value for money and is the test that we recommend. If your budget allows the Y-DNA67 marker test is the best long term option.

The Y-DNA test tests your direct paternal line, which would be your father, your father's father, your father's father's father, and so on back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have the surname Rix or Ricks or Rex or a variant. If you believe there is a Rix (or variant) in your direct male line, even if you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, please encourage a male in your Rix/Ricks/Rex family line to participate. Females may sponsor a close male relative such as a father or brother or uncle or cousin to test on their behalf (see General Fund below).

The primary study of the surname Rix worldwide is conducted by members of the Rix Family Alliance. Formed in 1979 the RFA welcomes anyone with an interest in the surname Rix (or variants).Email Susie Rix susie.rix@virgin.net for more information. Membership is only £5 per year which provides two way interaction on research, advice, and access to family trees on the RFA website. The more information that you can provide about your Rix family the more benefit you will receive from becoming a member. The Rix Family Alliance organises meetings via Zoom several times a year. Anyone with an interest in Rix or Ricks or Rex or another variant is welcome to attend.

The General Fund facility on the left is provided by Family Tree DNA to enable people to sponsor or part sponsor tests for other people. As administrator I receive notifications of any donations made and will liaise between sponsors and testees to ensure that orders for tests are placed correctly. Let me know if you would like to know more about the General Fund.

Contact me if you have any questions or would like advice. I will help you interpret and evaluate your results, and will help testees extend and verify their paper research.
