Autosomal Transfers

To get started with your new account and Autosomal transfer, you can use this link "Let's Do It"

If you or a family member have previously tested your autosomal DNA at 23andMe©, AncestryDNA™, or MyHeritage™, you can transfer your results to Family Tree DNA by uploading your raw data file. After transferring your file, your autosomal data is uploaded to our database, one of the world’s largest genetic genealogy databases.

When you transfer, for free, you will receive a list of your autosomal matches from our database and have access to our Family Finder – Matrix. The Matrix feature allows you to select and compare the autosomal DNA relationship between up to ten of your matches at one time.

Note: Family Finder is the name of our autosomal DNA test.

After transferring, you can unlock all Family Finder features, which include the Chromosome Browser, myOrigins, and ancientOrigins for only $19.

Please note that you can only transfer the following file versions from 23andMe© and AncestryDNA™ :

  • 23andMe© V3
  • 23andMe© V4
  • AncestryDNA™ V1
  • AncestryDNA™ V2

Unfortunately, at this time, you cannot transfer 23andMe© V1 or 23andMe© V2 results.

The Family Finder Matches page displays your Family Finder test matches. The top section of the page allows you to filter your matches; the bottom section displays your Family Finder matches. If you wish to download your matches, use the CSV button or Excel button at the bottom of the page.

Filter Section

There are four ways to filter your matches: 1) Relations,  2) Sort By,  3) Name, and 4) Ancestral Surnames. Click “Advanced Search” to access options 2 and 4.

The following Relations options are available:

  • Match Date – Sorts your matches by match date.
  • Relationship Range – Sorts your matches by relationship range.
  • Shared cM – Sorts your matches by the sum of shared autosomal DNA measured in centiMorgans (cM).

The Name filter allows you to limit matches to those who have a specific name. To filter by name, type a name into the box “Search name or ancestral surname” and click search-icon or press Enter on your keyboard.

The Ancestral Surnames filter allows you to limit matches to those who have a specific ancestral surname in their account. To enter an ancestral surname, type it into the box “Search name or ancestral surname” or click “Advanced Search” and enter it here, then click search-icon or press Enter on your keyboard.

* Soundex is a method of indexing names so that names that are similar in pronunciation are grouped together.

The “Chromosome Browser”, “In Common With”, and “Not In Common With” functions allow you to compare selected matches with yourself and/or others in your list. Note: You may only select up to five matches at a time.
