About us

The focus of the Montgomery Surname DNA Project is on genetic relationships since the adoption of surnames, which for the Montgomery surname goes back to at least the time of William the Conqueror.

The earliest named Montgomery is Roger de Montgomery, seigneur of Montgomery who flourished in 1027 and had sons Hugh de Montgomery, Robert de Montgomery, Roger de Montgomery, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, William de Montgomery, and Gilbert de Montgomery. At WikiTree he is Roger de Montgomery (abt. 984-aft 1040) with sons Hugues, Robert, Guillaume, Gilbert, and Roger de Montgomery II (abt. 1022-1094). Please be aware that WikiTree family trees are often unsourced, especially with ancient lines that cannot be confirmed. Use those trees as a research tool, not as definitive proof of your family tree.
