  • 28 Mar 2019 PROJECT UPDATE
  • For the next three days, if you already have taken the Big Y (500) test and want to upgrade to the Big Y -700 you can do so for $179.  But  even at the regular $249 price this upgrade is well worth it...the new Big Y is a complete "re-do" of the old test and covers 50% more of the Y chromosome, as well as providing better resolution on the previously covered sections...all thanks to better equipment and analysis procedures that have recently come to the market.  Details are here in this white paper on the big Y 700:  https://blog.familytreedna.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/big-y-700-white-paper_compressed.pdf

  • 04 Mar 2016 (18:22 PST): PROJECT UPDATE.
  • There is new FTDNA SNP pack called which I recommend for all our J-L24-Y-DNA Project members who are listed as J-M172 and in project Y-DNA clusters 0100 through 052600! Please contact the project administrators if you are not sure if this SNP pack applies to you!

Please consult with project administrators before testing any SNPs or SNP Packs! Project administrators will advise on the best SNPs or SNP packs to test.

We have worked with FTDNA to make sure that FTDNA's J-L24 Haplotree is up to date! There are still some bugs to be worked out and some important missing branches but overall the J-L24 Haplotree is the best it has ever been!

Thank you Ian for the 25.00 USD donation. Much appreciated!
AAA donated 12.25 USD for general use.

Our donations assisted in funding a BigY for the Curtin Clan!

Thank you Anonymous for the 250.00 USD donation. Much appreciated!

Our donation funds were sufficient to order a Y37 marker upgrade for kit 272733!

There is a new J2 SNP Pack available but it is not intended for J-L24-Y-DNA Project members in clusters 0100 through 052600! Please do
NOT order this new J2 SNP Pack if you are in the J-L24-Y-DNA Project clusters 0100 through 052600. L24's will be getting a more specific SNP pack to test in the near future!

Please consult with project administrators before testing any SNPs or SNP Packs! Project administrators will advise on the best SNPs to test.

We have placed most project members in their closest branch of the J-L24 tree based on either SNP tests or on their marker matches to others who have already SNP tested. These results can be seen in our J-L24 project's Y-DNA Results pages. So if you have not SNP tested, our Y-DNA Results pages indicates which SNPs to test if any.

    FTDNA's
section remains incomplete compared to the known J-L24 genetic tree. Please contact the J-L24 project administrators if you are planning a SNP test based on the FTDNA . We will correctly advise you on which SNP(s) to test based on 37 or more markers tested.

Currently FTDNA does not offer a Deep Clade test, except for the BigY test, to determine which branch of the Y-tree one belongs. A very low cost per SNP test is offered by National Geographic where over 12000 Y-SNPs are tested. Geno 2.0 will determine your primary placement in the J-L24 Y-tree with the added bonus that new branches (SNPs), or your own personal branch (SNP), may be revealed! We recommend the Geno 2.0 test to all J-L24 project members who want to know more about their deep ancestry or if their haplogroup is listed as J-M172 (J2). Please visit the National Geographic website to learn more about their Geno 2.0 test. A link in provided in the projects link section. Your results can be transferred free of charge to FTDNA where you will be given full credit for all your SNPs.

Unsecure links can no longer be posted to the news sections. This makes sense because FTDNA is a secure website so everything within also has to be secure. Therefore we have moved our J-L24 draft genetic tree to a pdf file which can be accessed from the project's new Google Drive website. Moving to a pdf format for the tree has made a big difference to the presentation of our tree because now you can use the pdf function to locate SNPs and subclades anywhere in the tree. We also added important clusters to the tree such as the DYS462=8, Curtin, PF5456-beta, and Al-Ahsaa clusters among others. I will also place the link to our project's genetic tree in our project section, which can have unsecure links. Please let me know if you have any troubles accessing the link below:

    Unfortunately FTDNA is
not allowing any links in their news sections for the projects at this time! Hopefully this will change in the future.
