The McDowell Surname Project is focused on using DNA testing and genealogical research to better understand the origins and relationships of McDowell families around the world. Our goals include:

• Identifying McDowell lineages through Y-DNA testing and historical research.
• Establishing reference ancestral lines that can serve as benchmarks for comparing and connecting project members.
• Expanding Big Y-700 participation to refine haplogroups, discover previously unknown branches, and improve our understanding of McDowell family relationships.
• Combining traditional genealogy with DNA evidence to confirm documented pedigrees and uncover new connections.
• Breaking through genealogical brick walls by helping participants identify common ancestors and shared family origins.
• Collecting and preserving paternal-line histories from project members so that family trees can be studied alongside genetic results.
• Building a collaborative research community where participants can share information, compare findings, and contribute to a growing body of McDowell family knowledge.
• Creating a lasting resource for future researchers that documents the genetic and genealogical history of McDowell families for generations to come.
