About us
The primary purpose of a surname-focused DNA project is to use Y-DNA profiles to illuminate the relationships among contributors representing the various male lineages. Often, as here, more than one spelling of the name has reached us in the 21st century, and the origins of surnames sounding very similar may be quite different. Variants seen so far for the Carl Project are Carle, Carll, Corl, Corll, Currell, Curl, and Carroll. A major goal is to find coherent groups of closely-related Y-DNA profiles that within them constitute closely-related male lineages. Other participants, especially female cousins and other biological relatives, may have "Family Finder" (i.e., autosomal matches) with the Y-DNA participants, which show they are closely related to those corresponding Y-DNA profiles. However, the administrator is not actively reviewing such correspondences. If you have a specific question about using both autosomal matches and Y-DNA matches, Paul will be happy to respond to your inquiry.
