About us

As of 5 September 2006, six men and one woman have participated in the project.

Five of the men have documented pedigree showing descent from Matthys Cornelissen. Four of these men have a genetic match that is close enough to be able to say they are descended from a common ancestor. The Haplogroup assigned to this group is I1a, indicating the original ancestor was of Viking or Scandinavian origin, which tracks well with Jutland as the documented place of origin for Matthys Cornelissen.

The fifth participant in this group did not match and has a Haplogroup of J1a, which indicates the original ancestor came from the Eastern Mediterannean

The sixth participant has a conventional pedigree showing descent from Christian Barentsen. As there is only one participant in this group, we can not be sure we have identified the genetic line. We need more descendants of Christian Barentsen to comfirn the line.

The lone female in the project shows an mtDNA line going back to the Soumi of Finland, or possible the Catalunya of Spain.
