Testers may join this project if they are believed to descend in the direct male line from the family of the Hereditary High Stewards of Scotland, often known as the Royal Stewarts. Male testers will belong to the L746/S310 subclade of the R-M269 haplogroup, and they will test positive for a number of specific SNP values, including L744, L745 and L746. If they have taken a Y-STR marker test, they will show the typical Royal Stewart Y-STR marker values of GATA-H4=10, 406S1=11, 565=11. Female testers who believe they descend from the Stewart High Stewards of Scotland and have tested for mtDNA or the autosomal Family Finder test are also welcome.
