The Stiff Surname Project was established on 1 April 2020 by Lucy Nelson and Debra Monsive Stiff.
Due to a non-paternal event in the 1800s, descendants of Alfred A. Nelson are Y-DNA matches to Stiff descendants and are welcome to join our project.
If you are a male with the Stiff (or variant) surname, please order a Y-DNA test (37 markers, 111 markers, or Big Y-700) from Family Tree DNA. Female descendants are also invited to join our group. Females should order the Family Finder test and ask their Stiff male relative to take a Y-DNA test. Please email the administrators to the left with any questions. We are happy to help with the ordering process and will explain how the tests work. We will also assist with interpreting your results.
