R-Y19847: Merging Paper Trail

  • 126 members

About us

This project is for men, predominantly with Jewish or Hispanic heritage, who belong to the haplogroup  R-M269 >R-L23 > Z2103 > Y4362 > Y4364 > Y4366 > BY13830 > BY3293 > Y19847.  Over 40 members of this group have had Big Y testing and we expect that future members will match one or more of them in Y37, Y67, Y111 or specific SNP testing.

There are to main goals of this project:

The first is to further refine the different downstream (more recent) “branches and twigs” SNPs of the Y19847 tree spanning all the way to the modern day, allowing members to correlate their own “paper trail” genealogies with their close genetic cousins. This includes two of the members of the group who have paper trails back to two famous Rabbinical lines, Meir of Rothenburg (ca 1200 C.E. of Worms, Rhineland-Pfalz) and Samson Wertheimer (ca 1650 C.E. of Worms, Rhineland-Pfalz).

The second is to focus on the older, more upstream (more ancient) “trunk” SNPs of the Y19847 tree, comparing them to both our sister haplogroups in modern day Lebanese Druze, Armenians, Arabs, and Chuvash, as well as the ever growing body of ancient DNA samples from archaeological sites, in order to help place the ancient origin of our paternal ancestors into a broader, historical context.

We hope to find additional men that have established paper trails and/or who might be willing to have advanced DNA testing.

In general we will be inviting people to join this project based on Y-DNA test matches to confirmed Y19847 men.  This is NOT a generic haplogroup project nor is it a generic Jewish project.

We encourage everyone in this project to also be a member of our parent project, R1b Basal Subclades  https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/r-1b-basal-subclades/about
