About us

The goal of the MYERS Y-DNA Project is to distinguish between MYERS ancestral lines, worldwide. There are many! Any reasonable spelling variant is included (please feel free to suggest a variant not listed). Please note that, at the outset, it makes sense to "cast the net widely." As the number of individuals tested increases and various lines become well defined, this Project could be divided for other researchers to specialize in them. Contact us if you would like to propose such a division.

Several separate projects (see below) are currently operating within the broader MYERS project, and we are seeking MYERS descendants who would be willing to consider participating in DNA testing. We would be very glad to hear from direct patrilineal descendants of :
- David MYERS (b.c.1778 York, PA - d.c.1840 Washington, IN) and m. Mary BRADLEY
- Rudolph MEYER (c.1680-1767) of Berks, PA
- Martin MEYER (1756-1840) of York, PA m. Annie DOHNER
- Hans MEYER (c.1665-1722) of Conestoga, PA m. Anna BRUBAKER

Baschi Meyer Project : Baschi Meyer (1592-1640) of Switzerland and his wife Ottila Muller (1598-1639) are easily recognized names on many family trees, especially among those tracing their Brethren or Mennonite anabaptist roots. However, while Baschi and Ottila's Swiss origins are relatively well documented, their descendants' flight from religious persecution is far less so.  Multigenerational migrations across Europe and the Atlantic, loss of records, intermarriages between a small number of families, and reuse of the same few names are some of the difficulties faced by genealogists researching these ancestors. Now, modern science has brought a new twist to this saga: DNA. At least 3 different and mutually exclusive Y-DNA haplogroups claim descent from the family of Baschi and Ottila! The goal of this project is to bring both documentation and DNA to help sort this out, and help people find their right ancestors.
