This initial Y DNA project and the research of many other people has identified that the McCamish descendants also immigrated to Australia, England, New Zealand and Scotland, but over time, the connections between those families who emigrated and their forebears in Ireland have been lost, so the new aim of this project is to try to uncover how the families are connected.

While most people with this surname believed they are ultimately Scots, the DNA indicates they were North West Irish in origin.
