The project has three main goals:

(1) To establish a database for Knox DNA information, which may help discover previously unknown relationships between various Knox families, including families with 'variant' surnames like Knock, Nocks, Noke, and the like.

(2) To confirm or disprove relationships between different Knox families, in cases where conventional genealogy has already indicated possible kinship.

(3) To encourage and facilitate communciations among researchers interested in using DNA for Knox genealogy, whether or not they've taken DNA tests. To this end, the project maintains a mailing list open to all Knox researchers.
