About us

Our project has recruited another Kasbohm male for Y chromosome testing. His sample was received by FTDNA on April 26 and 37 marker testing will begin soon.

Test results for our third participant have been posted, and as expected, he matches his known cousin, and he appears to be a member of the Frisian 3 subgroup of Haplogroup R-U106 originally identified by Ken Nordtvedt. His results are not close enough to the results of our first participant for the two men to be classified as matches, but a comparison of results for the three men and the most typical results for men in the Frisian 3 subgroup shows that this is probably due in part to a recent mutation on his line on the marker DYS390, where the first and second participant match, but he does not. He does match the first participant on two markers where the first and second participants do not match. Those markers are DYS460 and CDYa. It is likely that the second participant has mutations in his line at these markers. The first participant is known to be a descendant of David Kasbohm who was married in Mecklenburg in 1779. It would be especially helpful to find another known descendant of David Kasbohm who is not closely related to our first participant to test. If there have been multiple mutations in the line of our first participant since David, we could hope that mismatches between the two descendants of David would indicate where such mutations have occurred.

Family Finder results for our female participant from a Rochester, NY line match the results of our male from the Fredonia, NY line. This confirms a relationship that was nearly forgotten and which has been very difficult to document.
