Our objective is to identify various Foushee (Foshee, Fooshee and other variations) groups through Y-DNA and autosomal test results, and traditional genealogical research to prove and document branches and relationships. Men having the Foushee surname should have Y-DNA and autosomal (FamilyFinder) testing performed. Though emphasis, focus is on the Foushee (and variants) surname, this is an autosomal as well as a Y-DNA project; any male or female able to show a direct connection to the surname within recent generations (preferably within five generations) is encouraged to join the project. Traditional documentary genealogy often encounters issues of sketchy, contradictory, or “absent” evidence. Circumstantial information and family legends together do not rise to the level of “acceptable genealogical proof”. With the growth and acceptance of DNA analysis and matching, a new, strong path towards good GPS evidence is in our tool kit.
