Coffin Project Goals

In your direct paternal family line, the male "Y" chromosome is passed down from father to son virtually unchanged from generation to generation.

The goals of the Coffin family Y-DNA project are to:

  1. Determine through Y-DNA testing whether you are a genetic, male Y-DNA descendant of Tristram Coffin Sr. in your patriarchal family line, regardless of your ethnicity.

  2. Establish a genetic branch baseline for each of Tristram Coffin's 5 sons -- Peter (Line A), Tristram Jr. (Line B), James Sr. (Line C), John (Line D), and Stephen (Line E), regardless of ethnicity.

  3. Help project members determine their lineages and ancestry to Tristram Coffin Sr., regardless of ethnicity. This will become easier to do over time with a large number of testers.

  4. Help project members learn more about the Coffin family's history.

  5. Raise funds to pay for tests for new members or upgrades for existing members.
