About us

The Cisneros Surname Project was created to bring together people from around the world who share the Cisneros name and its variations, including de Cisneros, Cisnero, Sisneros, Zisneros, and others. The project began as a way to bridge the gap between traditional genealogy and modern DNA analysis, allowing members to confirm or discover connections that historical records alone might not reveal.

Our work focuses on Y-DNA testing to study paternal lines, since the Y-chromosome is passed from father to son with little change over generations. This makes it an ideal tool for tracing the shared origins of Cisneros families and identifying distinct branches of the surname.



While the project is centered on DNA results, it is equally supported by the exchange of family histories, migration stories, and archival research. Members contribute both their genetic data and their personal research, helping to create a more complete picture of how Cisneros ancestry has spread from its earliest roots in Spain to Latin America, the United States, and beyond.

The Cisneros Surname Project continues to grow as more people join and share their results. Each participant strengthens the network of knowledge, helping future generations understand not only their own place in the Cisneros family tree, but also the larger story of the surname itself.
