• Robert de Brus married Emma (?).

• Their son Adam Bruce married Emma Ramsay, daughter of Sir William Ramsay. He died in 1080.

• Their son Robert Bruce died in 1141. The identity of his wife is not known.

• Their son Robert Bruce married Euphemia (?).

• Their son William de Brus, Lord of Annandale, married twice; secondly, to Beatrice de Teyden, daughter of Paulinus de Teyden and Beatrice de Evermure. He died between 1203 and 1213.

• Their son Robert de Brewes, Lord of Annandale (mother was Beatrice de Teyden) married Lady Isabella of Huntingdon, daughter of David of Scotland, 9th Earl of Huntingdon and Matilda of Chester. He died in 1245. He was also known as Robert de Brus and gained the title of Lord of Annandale.

• Their son Sir Robert de Brus, Lord of Annandale was born in 1210. He married, firstly, Isabella de Clare, daughter of Gilbert de Clare, 4th Earl of Gloucester and Lady Isabella Marshal, on 12 May 1240; secondly, Christina de Ireby, daughter of William Ireby and Christiana de Hodeholme, on 3 May 1273 at Hoddam, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He died on 31 March 1295 at Lochmaben Castle, Scotland.

• Their son Sir Robert le Brus, 1st Lord Brus (mother was Isabella de Clare) was born in July 1243. He married, firstly, Margaret, Countess of Carrick, daughter of Neil, 2nd Earl of Carrick and Margaret Stewart, in 1271 at Turnberry Castle, Turnberry, Ayrshire, Scotland, without Royal consent, and so she had to pay a heavy fine; secondly, Alianore (?) after 1292 He died before 4 April 1304. His eldest son by Margaret, Countess of Carrick was King Robert the Bruce.

• Their son Sir Thomas Bruce (birth date not known, mother was Margaret, Countess of Carrick) married Helen Erskine, daughter of Sir John Erskine. He died on 9 February 1307 executed by the English.

  The Peerage states that there was no issue from this last marriage above. Several websites (e.g. here and here) suggest there was a son called Thomas Bruce, who was in turn the father of Sir Thomas Bruce (De Bruys) below, but a primary reference source for this claim is not evident. The following lineage starts with Sir Thomas Bruce (De Bruys), who is generally thought to be related to the Bruce royal family, e.g, Burke’s Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage and Baronetage, Peter Townend, ed., London, 1970 provides no parentage, and describes him as “Thomas, a near relative of the Bruce kings”. For a discussion suggesting he may have been a nephew or grandnephew of King Robert I, see here and here.

• Sir Thomas Bruce (De Bruys) 1st Baron of Clackmannan married Marjorie Charteris of Stenhouse. He died before 1348. They had 1 son. In 1334 he organised a rising against English rule, along with Robert II, 7th High Steward. As a reward, he was granted the demesnes of Clackmannan.

• Their son Robert Bruce 2nd Baron of Clackmannan married Isabel Stewart, daughter of Sir Robert Stewart. In 1359 he had charters of Clackmannan (Gartlet) and Rate. They had 3 sons.

• Their 1st son Sir Edward Bruce of Stenhouse married Agnes Airth, daughter of Sir William Airth of Airth, c1417 Stenhouse, also in Stirling, also belonged to this branch of the Bruces, who were for a time styled either ‘of Stenhouse’ or ‘of Airth’. They had 1 son.

• Their son Sir Robert Bruce of Airth married Janet Livingston, daughter of Sir Alexander Livingston of Callendar and Janet Dundas. They had 1 son.

• Their son Sir Alexander Bruce of Airth and Stenhouse married Margaret Forrester, daughter of Malcolm Forrester. They had 4 sons. He died in 1488.

• Their son John Bruce of Stenhouse married Elizabeth Menteith, daughter of Sir William Menteith of Kerse and Helen Livingston, in 1483. They had a son and a daughter.

• Their son Sir Robert Bruce of Airth was born c1472 and married Eupheme Montgomerie, daughter of Alexander Montgomerie, Master of Montgomerie and Catherine Kennedy. They had a son and a daughter. He died at the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.

• Their son Robert Bruce of Airth married, firstly Janet Forrester, daughter of Sir Walter Forrester of Carden. They had a son. He secondly married Marion Bruce, daughter of Sir David Bruce of Clackmannan and Janet Blackadder.

• The son from this first marriage Sir Alexander Bruce of Airth married Janet Livingston, daughter of Alexander Livingston, 5th Lord Livingston. They had 4 sons and a daughter. He died in 1600.

• Their 1st son William Bruce, younger of Airth married Jane Fleming, daughter of John Fleming, 5th Lord Fleming, in 1582. They had 3 sons.

• Their 2nd son Sir William Bruce of Stenhouse, 1st Bt. married firstly, unknown daughter Middleton, of General unknown Middleton; secondly Rachel Johnston, daughter of Joseph Johnston, before 1621. He died in February 1630. He was created 1st Baronet Bruce, of Stenhouse on 29 September 1628, with special remainder to his heirs male.

• Their son Sir William Bruce of Stenhouse, 2nd Bt. (mother Rachel Johnson) was born on 19 August 1621 and married Helen Douglas, daughter of William Douglas of Cavers.

• Their son Sir William Bruce of Stenhouse, 3rd Bt. married firstly, Jean Fortune on 16 September 1665; secondly, Alison Turnbull on 17 April 1679. He died in March 1682.

• Their son Sir William Bruce of Stenhouse, 4th Bt. (mother Jean Fortune) married Margaret Boyd, daughter of John Boyd. He died in March 1721. Their eldest son Sir Robert Bruce of Stenhouse, 5th Bt. died unmarried and without issue.

• Their younger son Sir Michael Bruce of Stenhouse, 6th Bt. born c1709 married Mary Agnew, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, 5th Bt. and Eleanora Agnew. He died on 1 November 1795.

• Their son Sir William Bruce of Stenhouse, 7th Bt. born 27 March 1739 married Anne Colquhoun Cuningham-Fairlie, daughter of Sir William Cuningham-Fairlie of Robertland and Fairlie, 6th Bt. and Anne Colquhoun, in June 1795. He died on 17 November 1827. His eldest son Sir Michael Bruce of Stenhouse, 8th Bt. b. 31 Mar 1798, married but died without issue on 14 Dec 1862.

• Their younger son William Cunningham Bruce was born on 24 November 1798 married Jane Catherine Clark, daughter of William Clark, in 1820. He died on 11 November 1842.

• Their son Sir William Cunningham Bruce, 9th Bt. was born on 20 September 1825 at Bombay, India and married Charlotte Isabella O’Grady, daughter of Hon. Waller O’Grady and Hon. Grace Elizabeth Massy, on 21 August 1850 at Monkstown, County Dublin, Ireland. He died on 29 May 1906.

• Their son Sir William Waller Bruce of Stenhouse, 10th Bt. was born on 27 September 1856 and married Angelica Mary Selby, daughter of General George Selby, on 12 March 1892. He died on 22 March 1912.

• Their son Sir Michael William Selby Bruce of Stenhouse, 11th Bt. was born on 27 March 1894. He died on 20 May 1957.

• Their 3rd son Patrick Bruce lived at Newton, Scotland. He had two sons by unknown female(s).

• Their 2nd son Reverend Michael Bruce married Jean Bruce, daughter of Robert Bruce, 2nd of Kinnaird and Margaret Menteith, in 1659. They had 1 son. He was the Minister at Killinchy, County Down, Ireland.

• Their son Reverend James Bruce married Margaret Trail, daughter of Lt.-Col. James Trail and Mary Hamilton, on 25 September 1685. They had 2 sons. He died in 1726. He was the Minister at Killyleagh, County Down, Ireland.

• The 2nd son Reverend Patrick Bruce was born on 11 April 1692 and married Margaret Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, in 1718. They had 1 son. He was the Minister at Killeleagh, Ireland.

• Their son James Bruce was born in 1720 and married Henrietta Aston, daughter of Rev. Hon. Henry Hervey-Aston and Catherine Aston, in 1762. They had 2 sons and a daughter. He lived at Killeleagh, County Down, Ireland.

• Their 1st son Rev. Sir Henry Hervey Aston Bruce, 1st Bt. married Letitia Barnard, daughter of Rev. Dr Henry Barnard and Mary Canning, on 10 November 1786. He was created 1st Baronet Bruce, of Downhill, co. Londonderry on 29 June 1804. They had 5 sons and 6 daughters of whom only the last three (all sons) are identified. He died in 1822.

• Their 3rd son (9th child) Sir James Robertson Bruce, 2nd Bt. was born on 4 September 1788 and married Ellen Hesketh, daughter of Robert Bamford Hesketh, on 20 September 1819. They had three sons and a daughter. He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Bruce, of Downhill, co. Londonderry in 1822. He died on 22 April 1836.

• Their 3rd son Reverend Lloyd Stewart Bruce was born on 1 August 1829 and married, firstly, Jane Skene, daughter of James Henry Skene and Rhalou Rhangabé, on 6 October 1863. They had 3 sons and 6 daughters. He married, secondly, Anne Parker on 1 June 1881. He died on 19 March 1886.

• Their 2nd son (8th child) Rev. Dr Francis Rosslyn Courtenay Bruce was born on 14 August 1871 and married Rachel Gurney, daughter of Richard Hanbury Joseph Gurney and Sarah Evelyn Buxton, on 20 October 1908. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 19 January 1956.

• Their 1st son Merlin Bruce was born on 3 August 1909 and married Marjorie Joan Hitchcock, daughter of William Percy Hitchcock, in 1932. They had 2 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 27 February 1999.

• Their 3rd son Sir Robert Bruce, 3rd of Clackmannan. He married unknown Scrymgeour, daughter of Sir John Scrymgeour of Dudhope and they had 1 son. In 1393 he had charter of Rate. In 1394 he had charter of Clackmannan.

• Their son Sir David Bruce of Clackmannan married Jean Stewart, daughter of Sir John Stewart of Innermeath, 3rd of Lorn and Isabella Macdougall. They had 2 sons.

• Their 1st son John Bruce, 5th of Clackmannan married Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of Sir David Stewart, 1st of Rosyth. They had 2 sons.

• The son from the 2nd marriage Sir David Bruce, 6th of Clackmannan married, firstly, Janet Stirling, daughter of Sir William Stirling, 2nd of Keir. He married, secondly, Mariot Herries, daughter of Robert Herries of Terregles. He had a son by his 1st marriage and a son and daughter by his 2nd. He died circa 1500.

• The son from the 2nd marriage Sir David Bruce, 7th of Clackmannan married Janet Blackadder, daughter of Sir Patrick Blackadder of Tulliallan. They had 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died after 1556. Clackmannan was settled on him by his father in 1497.

• Their 5th son Sir Edward Bruce, 1st of Blairhall was born in 1505 and married Alison Reid, daughter of William Reid. They had 4 sons. He died in 1565. In 1537 he had charter of Easter Kennet. In 1540 he had charter of Bergandy and 2/3rds of Shirresmith, from William, commendator of Culross.

• Their 2nd son Sir George Bruce married Margaret Primrose, daughter of Archibald Primrose. They had 3 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 6 May 1625.

• Their 2nd son Robert Bruce, Lord Broomhall married Helen Skene, daughter of Sir James Skene of Curriehill, 1st Bt. and Janet Johnston. They had a son and 2 daughters. He died on 25 June 1652.

• Their son Alexander Bruce, 4th Earl of Kincardine married Christian Bruce, daughter of Robert Bruce and Catherine Preston. They had 3 sons. He died on 10 October 1706. He succeeded as the 4th Lord Bruce of Torry on 10 November 1705 and 4th Earl of Kincardine on 10 November 1705.

• Their 3rd son Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Kincardine was born on 19 March 1663 and married Rachel Pauncefort, daughter of Robert Pauncefort, in 1699. They had a son and a daughter. He died on 23 March 1739/40. He succeeded as the 7th Lord Bruce of Torry and 7th Earl of Kincardine in 1721.

• Their son William Bruce, 8th Earl of Kincardine married Jane Roberton, daughter of James Roberton and Euphemia Burnett, on 14 February 1726. They had 2 sons and a daughter. He died on 8 September 1740. He succeeded as the 8th Lord Bruce of Torry and 8th Earl of Kincardine on 23 March 1739/40.

• Their 2nd son Charles Bruce, 9th Earl of Kincardine was born on 6 July 1732 and married Martha Whyte, daughter of Thomas Whyte and Martha Hagges, on 1 June 1759. They had 4 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 14 May 1771. He succeeded as the 9th Lord Bruce of Torry and 9th Earl of Kincardine on 8 September 1740. He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Elgin and 5th Lord Bruce of Kinloss on 10 February 1747.

• Their 2nd son General Thomas Bruce, 11th Earl of Kincardine was born on 20 July 1766 and married, firstly, Mary Nisbet, daughter of William Hamilton Nisbet. They had a son and 3 daughters. He and Mary Nisbet were divorced in 1808. He married, secondly, Elizabeth Oswald, daughter of James Townsend Oswald, on 21 September 1810. They had 4 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 14 November 1841. He succeeded as the 7th Lord Bruce of Kinloss, as the 11th Lord Bruce of Torry. 11th Earl of Kincardine and 7th Earl of Elgin on 15 July 1771.

• Their 1st son from this 2nd marriage James Bruce, 12th Earl of Kincardine was born on 20 July 1811 and married, firstly, Elizabeth Mary Cumming-Bruce, daughter of Charles Lennox Cumming-Bruce of Roseisle and Kinnaird and Mary Elizabeth Bruce, on 22 April 1841. They had 1 daughter. He married, secondly, Lady Mary Louisa Lambton, daughter of John George Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham and Lady Louisa Elizabeth Grey, on 7 November 1846. They had 3 sons. He died on 20 November 1863 at Dhurmsala, India.

• The 1st son from this 2nd marriage Victor Alexander Bruce, 13th Earl of Kincardine was born on 16 May 1849 and married firstly, Lady Constance Mary Carnegie, daughter of James Carnegie, 9th Earl of Southesk and Lady Catherine Hamilton Noel, on 9 November 1876. They had 6 sons and 5 daughters. He married secondly, Gertrude Lilian Sherbrooke, daughter of Commander William Sherbrooke and Margaret McDonald Graham, on 19 November 1913. They had 1 son. He died on 18 January 1917.

• The 5th son from the 1st marriage Captain Hon. John Bernard Bruce was born on 9 April 1892 and married Helen Rachel Rawstorne, daughter of Henry Feilden Rawstorne, on 2 June 1923. They had 6 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 3 August 1971.

• Their 1st son Lt.-Cdr. Henry Victor Bruce of Salloch was born on 3 April 1924 and married Helen Vernon Wallop William-Powlett, daughter of Vice-Admiral Sir Peveril Barton Reibey William-Powlett and Helen Constance Forbes Crombie, on 17 May 1951. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 11 July 2011 at London.

• James Bruce died 13 January 1819 in Dublin.

• His son George Randal Bruce was born 1784-1788 in Dublin, and was buried 5 April 1842 at St Helena (South Atlantic). He had at least nine children by five different women in St Helena, none of whom he married. One of these women was Sarah Smith who was baptised 12th October 1794 at St Helena, and was buried (as Sarah Bruce) on 25 August 1835

• Their son George Randal Bruce was born 1 July 1828 at St Helena, and died 24 November 1878 at St Helena. He married 28 March 1855 widow Sabina Charlotte Faria neé Tracey. She was baptised 27 September 1825 at St Helena, and died 18 December 1913 at St Helena.

• Their son Thomas Robert Bruce was born 4 December 1862 at St Helena, and died 31 December 1956 at Croydon, South London. He married his second wife Edith Mary Lovelace on 20 April 1908 at St Helena. She was born 29th June 1890 at Colyton, Devonshire, and died in Croydon 29 November 1975.

• Their son Norman Tracey Bruce was born 22 July 1909 at St Helena, and died 2 March 1996 at Worthing, West Sussex, England. He married Marie May Barker 31 April 1938 at Croydon, London.

• James BRUCE born c1759 Scotland, married Margaret HENDRIE/HENDRY born Glasgow. They lived in Stirlingshire and had at least six sons and 1 daughter.
