About us

Background ...

The administrators of the Alabama Fever DNA Project have approximately 18 years of combined experience researching family lines from Blount County, Alabama, and the surrounding counties.  Years of research has led to the discovery that most of us who had ancestors that participated in the great Alabama Fever land rush during the early 1800's are biologically related and/or interconnected in some way.  We began working together as a team on this project in 2010.  In 2012 we began having family members tested with Y-DNA, mtDNA, and Autosomal DNA (atDNA).  Since that time, our group of participates have grown so large that we were in need of an official project with tools to help us manage all of it so that we could help our DNA cousins break through those brick walls and find their ancestral roots.  As a result, in 2015 we applied and were approved to administer our project with Family Tree DNA.  If you descend from an ancestor who settled in or passed through North or Central Alabama in the early 1800's, or if you are genetically related to someone who did, then we invite you to join our project.
