Greatly appreciate the originator of this Project, formerly called SlavesSlaveholder in the person of Rusty Vaughan. Rusty Vaughan invited Sharon Morgan in this endeavor. Her background is the following: Sharon Morgan is a genealogist, writer and marketing communications professional whose ancestors were enslaved in Mississippi and Alabama. Her 30 years of research led her to create Our Black Ancestry to help others trace their family histories. It also led her to co-author a book: Gather at the Table: The Healing Journey of a Daughter of Slavery and a Son of the Slave Trade, which was published in 2012 by Beacon Press. Kudos to Rusty in the establishment of this project and connecting genealogists such as Sharon Morgan in this endeavor.
The Project is now entitled, AFRICAN AMERICAN GRIOT LEGACY (AAGLP). My name is Charles Wilson, Project Administrator for the African American Griot Legacy Project (AAGLP) on FTDNA. Charles completed both a genealogical online certificate program in 2017 from Boston University as well as the ProGen Study Group one year certificate program (2019-2020) for professional and aspiring genealogists. He created a genealogy business called Wilson Griot Legacy to assist individuals in genealogical research and a WordPress blog (https://wilson3310.wordpress.com) sharing his interest in genealogy as well as interest in working with others to look at slave records, Slave Bill of sale, Wills and Deeds to identify Enslaved Persons.
