Of the 31 individuals where we have test results back, there appears to be 15 broad groups, suggesting about 15 independent origins of the Quinn surname.
Ten participants (Subgroup 1) show an exact or very close match to the reported haplotype of Niall of the Nine Hostages. As there is an oral history of a reported ancient kinship with the O'Neills for at least one Quinn sept, it could be that this is the signature for the Ulster Quinn sept.
