By using matching Y-DNA markers to KNOWN LINES OF DESCENT of Wyndhams descending from the first marriage of Sir Thomas Wyndham and his wife Eleanor Scope, male Windhams descending from his second marriage to Elizabeth Wentworth can establish their roots back to England.  

For some individuals it is a reconfirmation of what they already knew. For others, especially that line of Windhams descending from Windhams found in early South Carolina, it uses established scientific DNA matching to prove the connection to the Felbrigg Wyndham/Windham Line.

This use of matching DNA markers to known descendants of the Felbrigg Wyndham/Windham Family from England is especially important to Windhams in the United States. Not all of the Windhams found in the Americas shared a common ancestor within the last several thousands of years. Through Y-DNA testing, it has beenshown there are at least ten separate and distinct lines of Windhams in the United States. Only one of these lines matches the DNA markers of known descendants of the Felbrigg Wyndham/Windham Family.
