2021. We discontinued NEWS in 2010, but the  group is still active!

2010 NEWS.
June 17, 2010. K. Luther joined project. Notice his last name is spelled LutHer. We are hoping he matches the other Luther male whose line was originally spelled Luter.
July 30, 2010. K's 37 marker results have come back, and he is a perfect match to the other Luther male, whose ancestor was from Virginia (John LUTER).

2009 YEAR END SUMMARY. We had one man join our project this year (J. Luter). His results are a match to the other Colonial VA/NC men. A second man has now upgraded to 67 markers, and matches the other man who upgraded last year.

2008 YEAR END SUMMARY. We had two men join our project this year (H. Lewter and F. Lider); they each tested 12 markers. Neither of them has a match to anyone in the project. One man upgraded to 67 markers; he is the first man to do so in the project.

2007 YEAR END SUMMARY. We had one more man's DNA marker results come in, and he matches the others. We had a member join (W. Lewter) who descends from GILES LEWTER of Colonial North Carolina. Another man (T. Luter) joined who descends from MATTHEW LUTER/ Several men ordered an upgrade to 37 markers. One man ordered the Deep Clade SNP test to further refine what his haplogroup is--which will be the same haplogroup for all the men who match his markers.

2006 YEAR END SUMMARY. We had our first participant on June 14. By the end of the year, there were six participants. Three descend from HARDY LUTER/LEWTER of Colonial North Carolina, one descends from MATTHEW LUTER, also of Colonial North Carolina, and the other descends from JOHN LUTER of Colonial Virginia. We learned that one branch of the JOHN LUTER family later changed the spelling of their last name to LUTHER. These five participants had matching DNA, proving that Hardy, Matthew and John share a common Luter ancestor. The sixth participant is from a Luther line and does not match anyone else. This man subsequently formed a Luther DNA project. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Luther/default.aspx. The rest of the men in our project have yet to match anyone with the original name of Luther.
