About us
The goals of this project are:
- To determine if all Lewter-Luter families are related, or if the name has several entirely different origins. One Lewter-Luter family may have its roots in England; yet another in Germany, yet another in Africa! Let's find out! Not all British Luter-Lewters may be related, and that is probably also the case with the Germans, French, etc.
- TO ASSIST GENEALOGISTS IN COORDINATING GENETIC RESEARCH WITH TRADITIONAL DOCUMENTARY RESEARCH.
- To (hopefully) prove that all Lewter-Luter families of Colonial Virginia and North Carolina are related (i.e., share a common ancestor). It has long been thought that Colonists John, Matthew, Hardy and Giles Lewter/Luter were brothers. Genetic genealogy should be able to tell us if they were closely related or not. MARCH 2008 UPDATE: This goal has been accomplished. We now have at least one man descending from each of the four "brothers" in our project. Their markers match; they were closely related!
