About John N Dove, Administrator

I launched the Dove DNA Project on Feb 2, 2018. I am the 5th great-grandson of Thomas Dove. My immediate family has been researching our Dove ancestors for nearly thirty years. Shortly before my Uncle passed in 2009, he handed over their genealogy research to me. Since then, I have been actively expanding on their initial work.

  • I am a member of Ancestry, Find-A-Grave, Rootsweb, MyHeritage, 23andme, FamilyTreeDNA, and YSEQ.
  • My public family tree on Ancestry, “A Dove’s Long Flight Home”, has over 7500 individuals.
  • I have written over 80 genealogical research papers on various ancestors and published them on ancestry.com.
  • I have added over 425 memorials for my relatives and ancestors to Find-A-Grave.
  • I have DNA tested over 20 family members with various companies including ancestryDNA, 23andme, and FamilyTreeDNA.
  • I am the first known descendant of Thomas Dove to ydna test. SNP testing on my ydna determined Thomas Dove’s Final Haplogroup is I2a-A16633*.

Given the information above, you can deduce that I have a lot of hours invested in my genealogy hobby. The key word there is “hobby”. While I consider myself an advanced genealogist, I am certainly not a professional genealogist, nor do I consider myself an expert on any of the Dove families that immigrated from Europe to America in the 17th and 18th centuries. As stated above, my family tree on ancestry has over seventy-five hundred individuals. As you may have already guessed, I have not researched all seventy-five hundred. The majority of my research time is spent on my ancestors and their children and those individuals in my family tree are often well documented.

Projects are run by administrators. Administrators are unpaid volunteers who have an interest in the history and genealogy of a particular haplogroup, lineage, geographic region, ethnic group, or surname. They are given access to tools to compare results and are responsible for managing and organizing the data for their projects.
