About us
The Dove DNA Project was created on Feb 2, 2018 by John N Dove to be a genealogical resource for all those interested in their Dove ancestry. The features of the Dove DNA Project are discussed below.
Activity Feed
There is some very useful information on the Activity Feed and I encourage members to review what has been posted. Older posts are archived periodically, so you may have to wait for pages with older posts to load.
The Activity Feed was never intended to be the administrator’s personal genealogy blog.
The Activity Feed is not set up like a message board and does not have its own built in search engine. The most recent posts on the Activity Feed appear first on the page. In addition, a comment on an older post will push it to the top of the feed. Therefore, there is no easy or efficient way for an administrator to organize the information that was posted. In an attempt to make information easier to locate, many of the administrator’s posts have banners that can help identify various topics of interest. You can also search loaded Activity Feed pages with your browser’s search tool (CTRL + F).
The YDNA Results Chart
The Dove DNA Project’s YDNA Chart is by far its most important feature. It allows our members to compare their STR values with other men who share the surname Dove. Since autosomal DNA is time limited due to recombination, comparing Y Chromosome STR data is the only way to definitively prove kinship for our Dove patriarchs.
Please note the following…
On completion of a STR YDNA test, the test taker will receive a list of their close matches based on a genetic distance score. It is important to note that FamilyTreeDNA does not automatically place them into a YDNA Chart with their matches, nor do they put them into a YDNA Chart with individuals who share their surname or haplogroup. Therefore, if you have taken a YDNA test, it is important that you join your respective surname and haplogroup projects. Project managers can advise you on your YDNA results and give you recommendations for further testing.
