Great news! While reviewing DNA tests for descendants of the immigrant Henry Whitney of Long Island, I noticed that several of them matched a man who had already taken a Big Y test. After reaching out, I have verified that this man is also a descendant of Henry Whitney, and so we now know Henry's DNA haplogroup. Only one descendant of Henry Whitney has taken a Big Y test and has the marker R-BY21030, sharing this marker with members of the Burke and Thompson families. This branch has a Northern European Celtic origin. The closest other Big Y test kit branched off nearly 3,000 years ago, so additional Big Y tests are needed to define the tree.

The John Whitney tree continues to build out, with the results showing a line that has been in Britain for a long time (they didn't come over with the Normans), and related to the Morgans, Gills, Forsythes, etc. The Henry Whitney branch has no context because we haven't had a single Henry Whitney lineage member take a Big Y DNA test. The Samuel Whitney line appears to be a distinct Whitney branch, related to the Eaton family. Updated the chart to now include estimated date ranges for the blue DNA markers!
