About us
Welcome to the Whateley DNA project which is part of the Whateley One-Name Study registered with The Guild of One-Name Studies based in London.
We welcome all those with a Whateley/Whately surname or ancestor and would love it if you joined us. By sharing our DNA results we can help uncover how the various Whateley/Whately families are connected, possibly where there are no paper records to help us.
Our main focus is Y-DNA testing of male Whateley/Whatelys, if you’re a female do you have male family members, father, brother, cousin who could take a Y-DNA test and join us? Y-DNA passes from father to son and so links to the direct male Whateley/Whately line going back through generations.
Autosomal DNA results from anyone with a Whateley/Whately ancestor are also welcome. If you’ve tested elsewhere you can upload your results to Family Tree DNA.
As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will help provide information about the evolution of the surname, confirm surname variants or find previously unknown variants.
