The main goal of the project is to establish connections among those with the Vallelonga surname and Calabrian ancestry. Using DNA test results on the y chromosome can provide a shortcut for distant cousins to connect. This will aid research in the microfilmed records to pin down common ancestors.

A secondary goal of the project is to determine whether there are connections between those with the Vallelonga surname and Calabrian ancestry and those with the Vallelunga surname and Sicilian ancestry. A close connection between a man with Vallelonga ancestors from Fabrizia and the project administrator with Sicilian ancestry has already come to light through DNA testing. It's possible that Vallelungas with Sicilian ancestry may be the link.
