About us

* Summary - Oct 2017

All the testees thus far are called TREW or TRUE.

Their Y-DNA can be grouped into three categories:
  1. Similar to people called Frew (a surname found in Co. Armagh)
  2. Similar to the Hollingsworth line (also Co. Armagh)
  3. Not particularly characteristic of any other surname (England)

* FRU / FREW

There is a clear link to the FREW / FRU family with our first test candidate. This was suspected as there is documented evidence of confusion between the names and also the two surnames being in physical proximity (especially around Markethill, Co. Armagh, Ireland in the 19th century).

The FREW / FRU surname has its own dedicated surname project.

* Hollingsworth NPE ?

From the Hollingsworth's family research:

 Henry Hollingsworth ... was living at "Tymore" (Teemore) in Mullaghbrack Parish near the village of Markethill in 1710.

It seems reasonable to suggest that we have discovered that a "Hollingsworth" male was raised as or transformed into a TREW around Markethill - be it through infidelity, adoption, remarriage, name change etc. All males Trews descended from this person will obviously have the same Hollingsworth Y-DNA signature even if they are, in every other way, part of the Trew family.

* TEW

An autosomal match hints at a link to TEW.
