About us
- By means of Y-chromosome DNA testing (men only):
- Determine if there are distinctly different male lines of descent represented by present-day Toynbees.
- Determine if Tenby, Toyne and Toynton families from Lincolnshire share recent male lineage with Toynbees.
- Determine if Taughenbaugh is a related lineage.
- Assist Toynbee family historians who have come up against brick walls in tracing their male line.
- And by means of mitochondrial DNA testing (women and men):
- Learn more about our female lineages.
- Need more information about DNA testing? At FamilyTreeDNA.com you can find an inheritance chart, a tutorial, message forums and more.
- As a member of the Toynbee Surname Project, your results are displayed on our webpage completely anonymously. If you signed the release included with your test kit, then your name, the email address you provided, and the pedigree you upload will be made available to FTDNA customers whose results match yours.
- You can upload your test results for free to the public databases Ysearch and mitosearch. There is a small conversion fee for adding your results to the National Geographic Society's Genographic Project. Ysearch, mitosearch and the Genographic Project also mask your identity.
- A 25/25 Y-DNA match or a mtDNA HVR1+HVR2 match may not indicate a recent common ancestor. Once you have your initial test results, you may order further tests on your samples so as to come closer to confirming or disproving relationships.
