About us
Through this project we hope to discover which family lines are related, validate family history research, and perhaps eventually find clues as to the origin of the surname and whether the Yorkshire place name theory is likely to be true.
We hope to answer several specific questions:
Are the Tickles with English ancestors related to those with German ancestors?
We have found the answer to this already and it is NO. The two groups have quite distinct YDNA. However, both groups are welcome in this project. If you don't know where your ancestors came from, a test may well show which group you are connected to.
Do all the Lancashire Tickles share a common ancestry in the distant past?
So far it looks as if this may be a possibility but it will need far more testing and research to discover if this is the case.
Are the Tickells etc. in Devon/Cornwall and Cumberland linked genetically to those in Lancashire?
This is probably not the case but we need more testers to determine which lines are related.
We're also very interested in seeing if we can find Germans with Nigel ancestors to test.
Another objective of the project is to preserve DNA results for the future to protect against any male line becoming extinct.
