About us
Initially, this project started as an attempt to determine the male ancestry of Johann D. F. SPIEGELBERG. SPIEGELBERG genealogists had suspected that Johann was not related PATERNALLY to the other SPIEGELBERG's. However, Autosomal testing on other websites showed that Johann's descendants were related to the other SPIEGELBERGs who settled in the same area of Wisconsin.
Initial Y-DNA testing was done at a screening level of Y-DNA 12. This testing established the likelihood that four SPIEGELBERG male lines existed. To improve the precision in our search for Johann's lineage, we incrementally upgraded our testing of his male descendants to Y-DNA 67 and then to Y-DNA 111. This upgraded testing showed that Johann SPIEGELBERG's male descendants matched with LUEDTKE males from families who had settled in the same area of Wisconsin as the SPIEGELBERGs. But, a twist in matching appeared in the form of a male from Poland, who appeared to be related to the SPIEGELBERGs as closely as the LUEDTKEs were related. Intrigued with those results and to answer the nagging questions of how recently they were related, we upgraded four Johann SPIEGELBERG male descendants and three LUEDTKE male descendants to Big Y-700.
Due to the favorable LUEDTKE results, we have expanded our research to include LUEDTKE males as well as SPIEGELBERG males.
Both surnames are WELCOME and ENCOURAGED to join us.
