About us

The goals of the South Australia Geographic DNA Project are:

* To provide a repository for DNA haplotypes from the state.

* To obtain a DNA 'profile' of South Australians, including our Aboriginal first people, and to learn more about their admixture, distribution and origins.  This has been influenced by British migration from 1836, followed soon after by Germanic settlers and steady migration until the much greater rates of European and British migration following World War 2 nd the more recent migraton from Asia and Africa.

* To enable researchers to connect with their genetic cousins - descendants of the early European arrivers have more DNA connections.

* To verify existing documentary and family history research, and to provide clues for further documentary research by identifying the possible location of earlier ancestors.

* To help break down brick walls caused by illegitimacy or adoption.

* To learn more about our distant human origins in both time and space.
