Sloboda-Yaltushkivska Слобода-Ялтушківська
Sloboda-Yaltushkivska is a village in Vinnytsya region of Ukraine established in early 1700s to help re-settle the lands abandoned by people because of the Turkish invasion (1672-1699) of Podillya in southern Ukraine. After the Turks were gone, Polish administration (at that time) invited people to return to the region and waived taxes for some period of time for those who did. As the result, many villages with name of Sloboda (meaning tax-free village) were established in southern Ukraine. Sloboda-Yaltushkivs'ka (Слобода Ялтушківська in Ukrainian or Słoboda Jałtuszkowska in Polish) was established next to the town of Yaltushkiv (now village of Yaltushkiv) across the Lyadova river. There is not much documented evidence who were the first settlers of Sloboda Yaltushkivska (maybe some documents are scattered in the archives of Ukraine and Poland), but the inhabitants of the village lived very compact for almost two centuries until the the 20th century. In the last century, perturbations and tragic events such as WWI, Holodomor, WWII, just to name a few, took may lives of the villagers. In Soviet times, because of harsh economic conditions, government policies, and persecutions, many people were forced to leave the village for better life and jobs in the cities. Many left Ukraine and settled thousands of kilometers away from Sloboda Yaltushkivska. Many families lost their family history and severed the ties with their relatives. Слобода-Ялтушківська - це село у Вінницькій області України, засноване у  першій половині 18-го століття для заселення земель спустошених внаслідок турецького захоплення Поділля (1672-1699 рр.)  на півдні України. Після того, як турки покинули край, польська (на той час) влада запросила людей повертатися до краю і робила тимчасові податкові полегшення для тих, хто повертався. Внаслідок цього з'явилося багато сіл з назвами Слобода (що означало село, вільне від податків) у Південній Україні. Слобода-Ялтушківська (польською Słoboda Jałtuszkowska) була заснована поруч містечка Ялтушків (тепер село Ялтушків) через річку Лядову. На жаль не знайдено поки-що документальних свідчень, хто були найперші поселенці Слободи-Ялтушківської, хоч кілька легенд існує серед теперішніх мешканців села. Можливо якісь документи розкидані по архівах України і Польщі, але мешканці села жили компактно упродовж майже двох століть до початку 20-го століття. У минулому столітті, збурення і і трагічні події, такі як перша світова війна, Голодомор, друга світова війна, серед інших, забрали життя багатьох мешканців села. У радянські часи, через економічні негаразди і державну політику та репресії, багато людей були змушені покинути село в пошуках кращого життя і роботи в містах. Багато залишило Україну і оселилось за тисячі кілометрів від Слободи-Ялтушківської. Багато сімей згубило свою родинну історію і втратило зв'язки зі своїми родичами.


About Project Про Проект
The Sloboda-Yaltushkivska DNA Project is a dual genographical project for both men and women with known ancestral ties to the village of Sloboda-Yaltushkivska. 

This project is created to provide the researchers an additional tool (in addition to the traditional genealogical research) to help recreate their deep family history. We invite current or former inhabitants, both males and females, of Sloboda Yaltushkivska, as well as their relatives to join the Yaltushkivska-Sloboda DNA Project. We encourage the participants to take as many DNA tests as they can afford to find about their direct paternal line (Y-DNA37 at least, males only), direct maternal line (mtDNAPlus test), or other ancestors within ten generations (Family Finder autosomal test), and to help reveal or confirm possible relative relations among the members of the Project.  		 ДНК-Проект "Слобода-Ялтушківська" є  подвійним генографічним проектом як для чоловіків, так і для жінок, предки яких походять зі Слободи-Ялтушківської. 

Проект створений для забезпечення дослідників додатковим знаряддям, у доповнення до традиційних родовідних досліджень, відтворення глибокої родинної історії, визначення географічного походження родин, а також генетичної спорідненості мешканців села між собою, так і з іншими мешканцями України й світу. Ми заохочуємо учасників зробити якомога більше тестів наскільки вони фінансово можуть собі дозволити, щоб дізнатися про свою пряму батьківську родовідну лінію (щонайменш тест Y-DNA37, для чоловіків тільки), пряму материнську лінію (тест mtDNAPlus), або інших предків у межах 10 поколінь (тест Family Finder), та допомогти виявити можливі родинні зв'язки між членами Проекту.

If you have tested with the Genographic Project Geno 2.0, you will first need to transfer your results to the Family Tree DNA database. Results can be transferred using this direct link on the FTDNA website. 

If you have already tested with FTDNA (or transferred results from Geno 2.0 project):
  • Login to your FTDNA (my.familytreedna.com) account with your kit number and password 
  • Click "My FTDNA Home" 
  • Click "Join Projects"
  • Type "Sloboda-Yaltushkivska" in the search field 
  • Click the highlighted project name "SlobodaYaltushkivska" 
  • Click "Join" at the bottom of the page
