About us
The founding members of this group all descend from different Skehan family lines present in northwestern Kilkenny, Ireland near the village of Gathabawn in the early 19th century. Many Skehans emigrated to America and Australia after the famine though some families remained and live in the area still today. As is often the case when researching Irish ancestors, most of us have hit the proverbial "brick wall" in our genealogical research somewhere in the early 1800's, and this is where we hope that Y-DNA testing and sharing our results through this group will help provide some clarity to our own family trees.
