The Sanok County, Poland DNA project was established in July 2014, as a result of suggestions from a number of members of the 'Bukowsko Triangle' Yahoo discussion group, a long-established on-line gathering of individuals with ancestry traceable to the general area of Bukowosko, in current day Sanok county. Although small geographically, the area of today's Sanok county is a fascinating subject for genealogical research, both DNA and traditional. With a rich, complex history going back many hundreds of years, the region has long been a melting pot of diverse cultures. Beginning in the mid 1800's and continuing through the early 20th century, a significant portion of the population emigrated to the USA. Present day descendants of those individuals make up virtually all project members, and are the main source of the DNA kits tested.
