About us

GOALS:

Our project's name speaks for itself ....The Ruple yDNA Surname Group ...is open to all name variants of the name Ruple .... in Germany, in Switzerland, and the United States, etc .... this group is one that has special significance and power to all members of the group ...by including names which may have been "anglicized" upon U.S. immigration, the science of yDNA can "sort out" our members and place them in relevant subcategories of "relatedness."  Thus, with each new member, we learn more about all the members, whether a "postive" match or a person who is definitely "not related."  Each of those persons has gained knowledge ....and helped others within our group ....The Group's goals are varied:

1.  We have a group haplotype established for several different unrelated families within our broad umbrella Surname Group as long as sufficient numbers have tested within that surname group to find a modal or average haplotype (set of numbers telling you if you are related or unrelated to a particular subgroup). (an example . . . our subgroups named Ruple, Rupel, Roppel, etc.)

2.  Add new lines with variant spellings.  We have already expanded beyond the six pre-Revolutionary War families found in the Ruple book and we have added three other familiy lines to discover their haplotypes and haplogroups.  The eastern PA Ruble/Rubel lines said to descend from either Ulrich or Peter Ruble in the Pennsylvania counties of Bucks and  have been tested and their haplogroups and haplotypes established for future comparison.  A brand new line of "Rupley" has been added, originally from the Pennsylvania county of Cumberland, with a Rubli Swiss ancestral spelling in the area of Zurich Switzerland thought to exist!!  Another line in the past year has been added from the canton of Berne, Switzerland, spelled Rubeli, and a great friend added to our group.

3. We actively seek to test area of Germany (the historical Palitinate, including areas of the Pfalz, Baden, Alsace, Saarbrucken) ...this will confirm relatedness of European cousins to each other as well as to their American cousins. Testing is open to those in
also in all areas including the cantons of Bern, Basel ({both half cantons}, Zurich).  Swiss and German (and even French) participants may discover American cousins or find new cousins in Switzerland or elsewhere by participating - exact degree of relationships must always be explored utilizing traditional documentary-type research, but confirming or refuting relatedness with yDNA testing can be a big boost to corroborating traditional genealogies!!

4. We constantly encourage Ruple/Rupel/Roppel/Rubel/Ruble/Rubeli/Rupley/Rubli family research, and corrections and updating of family histories now supplemented with DNA tests.

5. Variant spellings of the surname should be continually explored in order to establish a database that not only establishes and documents individual family DNA profiles, but which also may well produce "matches" among members of our yDNA surname Group not otherwise known to exist.

6.  Your family, if a part of our group, has the right to request yDNA testing of known or suspected male Ruple (or variant spelling) relatives - simply contact the administrator to ask about testing!!  There is a group discount if the person tested is a part of our group, currently representing a $20 savings over a non-group member rate for yDNA testing!!

7.  Finally, ALL of your comments are welcome.  Your recruiting of other Ruple variant members is highly encouraged and the adminstrator will assist with this recruitment and make suggestions if called in advance of your efforts.  Email Ruple yDNA Surname Group administrator:  switzerjr@gmail.com
