About us

RAIMER, RAMER, RAYMER, REAMER, REIMER, REYMER, RHYMER, RIMER, RIMMER, ROEMER, RUMER, RYMER, RÖMER There were six significant lines in PA before 1750 using (or later adopting) these surnames *. Two of these lines have been proven to have been the source for what was previously thought to be 11 other (separate) lines, located in Canada, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas and beyond. Many who use one of these surnames think it was relatively rare. They will probably be surprised to learn that. according to Ancestry.com, by 1840 there were 14 families in PA alone with the surname RAMER. This was about 29% of all the recorded Ramer's in the USA. Several other lines using one of the above surnames have located in other parts of the US and Canada. There are also many individuals with these surnames who have not yet “proven” their relationship to any extended line. With participation from Switzerland, Germany, and England, the project will, hopefully, also test for relationship to each of those suspected sources. This project is intended to determine which of these lines are related and document the results of the information gathered by this research. Of course, members of lines other than those described above are also encouraged to join, as are individuals who are not members of well-established lines but are seeking to discover their ancestral lineage. The “heart” of the project is analysis of the Y-Chromosome (which requires a male from a male-only line of descent). However, females and other males descended from RAMERs (various spellings) may also participate via MtDNA and autosomal testing (Family Finder). The project is being guided by a core group of project administrators. The below summarizes the distribution of some of their responsibilities: Greg Claiborne - Project Administrator. Greg oversees the entire project. He is a Raymer from one of the early lines in TN. He will have the primary responsibility for recruitment of new participants as well as welcoming and orienting new participants to the project. Greg will also have the primary responsibility of assisting participants needing help in researching their “RAMER” line. He can be reached at claiborne.greg@gmail.com. John Ramer - Co-Administrator. John is the original founder of this project. His many hours of research and trips to historic family areas have provided the volumes and depths of the information provided in this project. He can be contacted at johnramer@sbcglobal.net. Danny Raymer - Co-Administrator. John and Danny are 6th cousins, once removed and have collaborated on the Ramer/Raymer research for many years. Danny's primary responsibilities will be to manage this public website. His career was split between computer technology and scientific research. He can be contacted for any additions, changes or suggestion for this content at dannylraymer@gmail.com. Derek Lackaff - Co-Administrator. Derek is a college professor in North Carolina, who is descended from a daughter of Bolser RIMER of Rowan Co., NC. He is our most up-to-date on recent advances in genetic analysis. He also has advanced experience in family history research. His initial responsibilities will be conducting advanced research into the Family of Nine Branches. He can be contacted at lackaff@lackaff.net. * Immigrants to Pennsylvania before 1750 that are recorded in Pennsylvania German Pioneers include: • Philip RÖMER (REMER) – 16 Oct 1727 – Friendship (of Bristol) • Johan Stephen RÜMER/RUMER – 19 Aug 1929 – Mortonhouse • Johan Nicklaus RÖMER (REMER) – 25 Sep 1732 – Loyal Judith and Johan Nicklaus RÖMER (REHMER) – 3 Sep 1739 – Loyal Judith and Johan Adam RÖMER (REHMER) – 3 Sep 1739 – Loyal Judith and Mathias RÖMER (REHMER) – 3 Sep 1739 – Loyal Judith • Johan Frederick RÖMER – 5 Sep 1738 – Winter Galley • Frederick ROEMER – 26 Sep 1741 – St. Mark • Valentine REIMER – 5 Sep 1748 - Edinburgh
