About us

When people suggest DNAtesting they expect exact results. When we do genetic testing for genealogy we

x

do not get exact matches all the time. Over the last 10 years I have managedthe Rader Y-DNA project at familytreeDNA.com. During that time dozens of otherraters have also tested at the project and very few of them have matched me. Sowhat I would tell you is my experience is you cannot take a DNA test and expectto match someone.

What I was told when Istarted DNA research that you had to define your project. What is it you’retrying to prove with this DNA project. Then you needed to go out and recruitpeople who you thought would help you prove your thesis. So I went out using mygenealogical research and found other living Raders who fit my criteria. And mycriteria was that they would be as proven by genealogy from my immigrantancestor Casper Rader. There are many Casper Raders, this particular Casper gotoff of the ship Edinburg and Philadelphia in 1750.

The chart below depicts the descendants,as I understood it at that time. The column with Henry Tennessee died in 1851is my ancestry Thomas at the bottom of that line is my father. CenterlineDaniel Alabama died in 1827 is one of his brothers. And the line is beendifficult to find for years the purple one is Philip who died in Ohio in 1853.So’s upon him of each line contains a person who you would like to test Altonin the purple line Earl in the pink orange line and guide Thomas in the Brownline. Each of those men should contain the same Y DNA as their father who saidcontains their father send their fathers all the way back up the Casper.

After I recruited and had tested the three of us we findthat we do match exactly on the 37 marker Y DNA test. This surname study isbeing conducted at the familytreeDNA.com website. In the decade since I ranthis study many people have also tested to have the surname Rader but there isonly one person who is tested who I did not recruit who also matches the restof us.  The chart below entitled entitledDNA study shows the rough breakdown of the kinds of DNA of the people who tookthese tests. You’ll see the green stripe which contained six men is the lineI’ve been discussing the rest of the lines are other people who have a surnameof Rader but have totally different DNA.
