MAJOR FINDING 1: The original, main goal of the project was to determine whether there was a genetic relationship between Richard Pace of Jamestown, VA and John Pace of Middlesex Co., VA. Y-chromosome (YDNA) testing has verified that the two Pace men are NOT related on the surname line.
MAJOR FINDING 2: A yDNA match was found between the John Pace of Middlesex Co. VA Paces and a Pace participant from Canada whose Pace lineage in England was known. Research in English records has found a likely birth record and the parents of John Pace of Middlesex.
MAJOR FINDING 3: Other Pace families have been identified as being distinct families through the Pace DNA project. For example, the Frederick Pace "of Wales" family and the German Pees/Pace family are two additional, distinct families as verified by yDNA testing.

The results will show Pace DNA project participants who share DNA with you. CAUTION: Just because you are both in the Pace project doesn't necessarily mean that you received your common DNA from your Pace ancestors - you may have more than one set of shared ancestors who are not Paces. But it gives you a good place to start.

Richard Pace of Jamestown, Virginia (Groups 3a and 3b)
The Richard Pace Group divides into two groups based on YDNA results. These two groups are called Group 3a and Group3b, an artifact of the original numbering of the YDNA groups in the Pace DNA Project. Both Group 3a and Group 3b are YDNA haplogroup R-BY41561, the most recent SNP shared by both groups.
Using YDNA STR markers, the two groups are distinguished by a difference at STR marker 385, with Group 3b having a rare 2-step mutation from 11-14 to 11-12.
Group 3a (DYS 385 = 11-14); Group 3b (DYS 385 = 11-12)
BigY-700 results are getting interesting for Group 3b. Previously, Group 3b descendants of William Pace (wife Sesley Walker), John Pace of Surry Co., NC (wife Sarah) through son Burrell, and Jesse Pace of Harlan Co., KY, were found to share SNP (DNA change) R-FT273649 (plus 2 SNPs). (22 March 2021) A new participant in Group 3b does not share SNP R-FT273649 with the other Group 3b test takers but does share the other two SNPs. So the new participant appears to sit on an older branch of the Group 3b SNP tree, R-FT274563 (plus 1 SNP), and the others branch off from that SNP. These SNPs do not occur in any of the Group 3a participants who have taken the BigY test. The participant believed they were a descendant of John Pace (wife Sarah), but the lineage and the BigY results have contradictions. (25 September 2021)
