About us

We have found some affinity between a couple of the samples but we also are seeing different values for some of the other lines. Our testing sample pool is very basic. Your sample is needed to start identifying more lines.

When choosing tests, any of you are welcome to do your DNA tests with this project. Male Descendents carry the same DNA passed down from their male ancestors and the female goes from mother to daughter was well. A slight difference with female (mtDNA) is that the mother son from her son. So a son can test for his mother's but a daughter cannot test for the YCS male DNA. This DNA is from DNA that is not modified as a product of both of your parents in the reproduction process like the rest of your DNA. It is known as non-recombining DNA.

Like going to the store, you can buy a little bottle of soda or a bigger bottle. The contents cost more per ounce with a small bottle, but if that is all you want, you pay more . But like a small bottle, it may not quench your thirst now and you probably will want seem ore later. Scientific tests are based on probabilities and statistics and the optimal sample for male YCS testing is the 37 marker test or 44 marker in other companies. For female mtDNA tests, even the mtDNA Plus test actually only tests a very small percentage of the female mtDNA so to me that is the minimum that someone would elect to test. These tests cost about $189. The cheaper tests do not have good reliability when used to compare two different persons tests. Chances are they will look very much closer matched than they really are. You can always upgrade at extra cost, but in the long run it is cheaper, quicker and more rewarding to do the 37 marker YCS or the mtDNA test initially.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I am not a paid employee of FTDNA, I volunteer to help understand my family history in context with others of the same name. Please consider being a Co-coordinator as part of this project as well!!
