About us

The Middletown Settlers DNA Project is open to descendants of the original 89 settlers of Middletown, Connecticut between 1650 and 1700. You may utilize a Y chromosome test to link to one of these ancestors, or an autosomal test to link to one or more of their descendants. Mitochondrial test results may become relevant as the project progresses. This is a geographical project with a defined universe of surnames. It is not necessary for a member to have one of these surnames, but only to be descended from one of the original settlers, whose surnames are listed below. Membership in the Society of Middletown First Settlers Descendants (SMFSD) is helpful but not a prerequisite to participation in the DNA group.
