At present there are four participants. Two with the surname McGlasson (7452 and N38657) and one with the surname McGlosson proved to have identical 12 marker haplotypes. Participant 7452 descends from William McGlasson I of VA; participant N38657 has not provided ancestral background. This haplotype belongs to haplogroup R1b1 and is shared by many other men with other surnames at the 12 marker level. Participant N38657 at present has analyzed for only 12 markers. The third participant 168538 has an unknown lineage after his grandfather. Since 168538 and 7452 have 25/25 and 35/37 matches, participant 168538 certainly descends from William McGlasson I or his line. The fourth participant, with the surname Glasson and a presumed origin in Canonbie, Scotland, differs from the other three participants by five markers at the 12 level and from 7452 and 168538 by 11 markers at the 25 level. Although all four men belong to the haplogroup R1b1, three have only very distant genetic connections (thousands of years) from the four. Even this small sampling indicates a strong genetic variation among individuals with the surname McGlasson.
