About us

Latest News - A descendant of the Maples of Kent, England has now tested. His Y-DNA branch (R-P312 >> U152) differs from that of the American Maples. We are looking for additional descendants of the Kent Maples who might be interested in testing -- this would help us to place the Maples of Kent on the Y-DNA tree.

Recently - The Maple Surname Y-DNA Project now has a new WEBBER member who has split the BY63743 haplogroup into 2 blocks. BY63743 now lies under a 4 SNP block called BY-109788

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The MAPLE Surname Y-DNA Project now has 5 MAPLE members who are believed to be descendants of David Maple Sr (born about 1730 in Middlesex County, New Jersey). Another member is a descendant of a William Maple (1755-1842) whose parentage is uncertain, but may be a son of Benjamin Maple III (David's older brother). These members all share the R-BY63743 SNP and 23 other SNPs downstream of R-FGC46245. The FGC46245 mutation is roughly estimated to have originated around 350 CE, and it is shared by some Moores of Ireland and Morrisons of Scotland.

The Maple Surname Y-DNA Project is looking for more distant Maple relatives to test. We are especially looking for:

1) A descendant of Benjamin Maple III (born c. 1725, New Jersey) or Jacob Maple Sr (born c. 1735, New Jersey). This would help us to confirm the common ancestry of most MAPLEs living in the United States, and to resolve some uncertainties in the MAPLE family tree.

2) A Maple living in the United Kingdom or a (non-U.S.) former British colony. This would help us push the MAPLE branch of the human Y-DNA haplotree back to the origins of the Maple surname. This would also serve as an important reference point for research into how the paternal ancestors of the MAPLEs migrated through Europe and into England.

The Maple Surname Y-DNA Project is also looking for males with surnames like Mable, Mabley, and Mabile. If these surnames are related, we hope to establish a chronology for their development in the British Isles (and perhaps Normandy).
