About us

The Maple / Mapley Surname DNA Project is open to all males with surnames such as Maple, Mapel, Mable, Mabel, Mapley, Mabley, Mabile, and Maplesden. This project began as an attempt to confirm the common ancestry of descendants of a Benjamin Maple who immigrated to the colony of West Jersey in the late 17th century. We have since discovered that Benjamin Maple's descendants are related to some Mapley families that lived in England in the 18th and 19th centuries. While we continue to encourage American Maple family members to join this project, to help in our attempt to resolve uncertainties in the Maple family tree, we also encourage others with Maple, Mable, Mabley, Mabile, and similar surnames worldwide to join. We hope to create a sort of family tree that describes the creation of these surnames. As this tree will undoubtedly contain other, dissimilar surnames, we invite anyone whose haplogroup lies under R-FGC46245 to join the project. As we have now identified a different Maple line associated with the Maple families of Kent, England, we want to especially encourage U. K. males with the Maple or Maplesden surnames to test. All surnames with haplogroups falling under R-FTD12439 are invited to join the project. It would be most helpful if participants would contact the project administrator with information regarding the earliest known ancestor in their paternal line. If you believe you are a descendant of Benjamin Maple Sr., please let the administrator know which of Benjamin's grandsons was your ancestor.
