About us
The objective of this research is to investigate paternal Y-DNA variants associated with the surnames Maddison and Matthewson, which are predominantly traced to the historical counties of Durham and Northumberland. This study also seeks to examine the distribution of these surnames in other regions of the United Kingdom and across continental Europe. By systematically documenting and comparing Y-DNA results alongside surname data, the project aims to identify potential common origins and ancestral linkages between distinct family groups, thereby contributing to a clearer understanding of their genealogical and historical development.
