To date, there are 20 distinctly different, unrelated & separate DNA groups made up of 138 MacTighernans spread over 13 countries and 5 continents at the time of
testing. All families originate from Cos. Leitrim & Sligo, with four from Cavan, one each from Kerry and Cork and 2 from Roscommon all in the west of Ireland. Three
testers verbal family history states that Scotland is their origin and one other verbal history says Killarney Lakes is their origin. One comes from India,
then St Ann's parish in Jamaica, then England. All of us so far fall into the R1b Haplogroup except Warren who is in the Q haplogroup.
