The Irish spelling of MacTighernan is used for all of our surname variants, McTernan / McTiernan / MacTiernan / McTurnan / McKiernan.
The DNA purpose is to solve the historical problem associated with finding the link between remote MacTighernans who so far are spread across the world in 13 countries on 5 continents. 138 MacTighernans have completed the family DNA test
falling into 20 distinct and separate DNA groups. All known MacTighernan families appear to have their origins in Cos Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo with the exception of the origins of four testers in Co. Cavan, two from Scotland and two from Co Mayo
and one from Co Kerry based on their verbal family history and one from India, then St Ann's parish in Jamaica then England.
