Surnames

Lavengood, Leavengood, Leibenguth, Leibundgut, Leibundguth, Levegood, Levengood, Levergood, Libengood, Liebenguth, Livengood, Livergood, Livingood, Lovenguth, Lovinggood, Lovingood, and many others.

Since all currently known surnames of interest begin with "L" and end with a syllable beginning with "g" and meaning "good" in English (good) or German (gut, guth), we will call the surnames above and other similar spellings "Lg surnames".

All people (or their administrators) are welcome in this group who have taken a yDNA (Big-Y) test and either ...

• have an Lg surname similar to those listed above; or
• are in a haplogroup that is associated with Lg surnames. (What is a haplogroup?)

Many families include members who have been enslaved or adopted or who have misattributed parentage. We welcome your participation.

Goals

First Steps

Our first steps are to:

• find and encourage the yDNA testing (Big-Y) of people who may help identify the haplogroups associated with those having an Lg surname.
• assist those in finding their biological kin who do not have an Lg surname but appear to be in a haplogroup associated with an Lg surname. (This may involve enslavement, adoption, or misattributed parentage.)
• share resources for people researching these families.

Longer Term Goals

• Establish or confirm genetic relationships among the descendants of each known immigrant to America with an Lg surname. (See "Background" tab for more information.)
• Identify other immigrants to America with an Lg surname. (See "Background" tab for more information.)
• Establish or confirm genetic relationships with those having an Lg surname living in Europe.
